Créon is one of the many bastides in Aquitaine, new towns built for strategic reasons during the Middle Ages. This one was founded for the English king Edward II in 1309. Like many other bastides it has a large market square surrounded by arcades. The streets are laid out in a grid plan.
The village church is situated a few steps south of the market square. It was founded in the 14th century, but altered many times. Inside you can admire a statue of the Virgin Mary from the 13th century. It used to be high upon the steeple, where it is replaced by a copy nowadays.
