the cultivation of wines on the caronnieux estate in Leognan has a long history, dating back to the 12th century. Benedicte monks from the holy cross abbey put the wineyard in order in the 18th century
the monks capitalizes on the remarkable limpidity of the white by baptizing them "Carbonnieux Mineral Water" and exporting them to Constantinople, where they were grealty appreciated by the Grand Turc. On e of the harem favourites, Bordelaise by birth, was at the bottom of this subterfuge.
