PAU is the home to the formost tecnical and scientific centre for the oil industry in France. It is surrounded by the majestic Pyrenees and to my utmost surprise, there is a huge connection between the reserch and technical development the goes on here and its direct applicationto TOTAL operations in Nigeria.

The Boulevarde de Pyrenees is connected to the train station by a 100m long railway. The train station is at the bottom of the cliff and there are many hotels at thetop. The railway was constructed by the hotels (a long time ago) to save guests the hassle of wal;king up and down.
The two trains pass each other every couple of minutes, endlessly.

Jurancon is home to a very delicious sweet white wine which is the perfect accompaniment to foie gras. It isn't far from Pau and it is nice to walk around the vineyards, especially in summer, and taste the produce at the various domaines up there.

The chateau was much restored in the 19C to make it into a museum including mementos about Henri but also more recent fineries. 19C rulers came here too.

The Blvd. des Pyrenees is worth a pleasant walk of a morning along its entire length. Near its center is the funicular. At the west is the Chateau. At the east is the Parc Beaumont.
