L'Assiette Gourmand: Fabulous food along the Dordogne

by wandw

This restaurant is signposted on the D29 near Alles sur Dordogne (about 20mins from Bergerac). It had a charming garden and lovely decor and very friendly owners who insist the kitchen is open at all hours. The food is all top quality, locally sourced specialities and it was all delicious. Closed Tuesdays, no credit cards. I had a tapa of black pudding with onion chutney, foie gras then confit of duck breast. It was very rich and extremely tasty.

L'Oasis: Friendly local and good food

by nhcram

We came in here on a freezing cold January night as nowhere else was open in the area. We were greeted by the owner and a couple of his friends. The restaurant is large and more like a cafe than a restaurant as it was brightly lit and had little atmosphere. The owner however was a lovely guy who made us very welcome and the food was superb. Well presented and freshly cooked food it was certainly a place we will go back to in March when we visit the area again.Ok we came back last week and had lunch on the last day of our short break. We got to the restaurant at about 1pm and without offering us a menu they proceeded to dish up soup, wine, water, followed by duck with pine nuts and lettuce. Then came steak in a pepper sauce, french fries and fresh veg. after came 7 different types of cheese to choose from and as if we didn't have any room a dessert!!! A family run business that we will go...

Le Chat: Good food, but mind the cats!!

by nhcram

This lovely restaurant is set in a medieval town called LIMEUIL. It is a town where the Dordogne river meets the Vezere river. The town has limited parking. It is a popular town with tourists because of it's beauty. Set on the banks of the river Le Chat is a lovely restaurant. The hosts are welcoming and friendly. The food is of superb quality. It is like being at home. The only problem for me was that there were cats roaming around. I know it s not a problem to a lot of people but I am scared stiff of the things!!! After a while the lady did actually move the little b***er that was pestering me and I was able to relax. On this occassion I had a pizza which was so fresh and full of wonderful vegetables and mozarella. Chris had a truffle omelette and my friend had pizza too. You must try the ice creams if you come here. They are truly scrumptious. A good bottle of wine to complete the...

La Bodega: Cosy local bar

by nhcram

Although this is a Tapas Bar the feel was very French indeed. We ate here twice as the friendly atmosphere drew us back. It is a small bar that seemed to be frequented by locals. It is run by a husband and wife team and the tapas were of very good quality. The Patatas Bravas and the Tortilla were very tasty.

Restaurant l'Abbeye: Comfort & great food.

Garlic potageSalmon saladeGrilled steakCheeseboardIce CreamBottle of vin du pays BergeracCoffee & armagnac33.5 euros - thats 23.00 Great Britain Pounds or $44 to our American friends. As the food was delicious, the service prompt and the ambience warm & comfortable, I think this would be difficult to beat for value. I will admit to a tremendous liking for Garlic potage, simple dish but unbeatable when done well.

This really is a very special place to eat.The menu is extensive & the food beautifully prepared and presentedThe heavily beamed indoor dining area, with it's central enormous fire, is comfortable and the decor is truely charming. I had the 33 Euros set menu.(23GBP/$44)Garlic soupEggs with trufflesGrilled duck breastGoats cheese in pastry& a whole tarte of apple, cinnemon and a dab of glace which eventually finished me off.Excellent wine cellar as well (treated myself to an excellent red - what the hell you're only young once)

Au Bureau: Al Fresco Eating

by nhcram

Had a really lovely meal in the city of Bordeaux at this large restaurant. It was busy but the waiters were still very attentive. The food took a while to arrive but it was worth the wait. The place was clean and the food was reasonably priced. Having seen a pizza on someone else's plate I had one too and it was very tasty. My husband had the salad which had duck and livers in it. (not my choice but he loved it!!) Washed down with a couple of beers it kept us going for many hours!

bArriving in Bordeaux after an hour in the car we needed a coffee and this was the first place we found. We only had a coffee but the food that was being served looked excellent and well presented. The staff were efficient and friendly. A three-course lunch is €15.00, which I thought was good value for money.
