The church dates back to the 12th century although through the ages there have been significant changes. For the most part to enlarge the church. But the porch is rather special and is a protected monument.
The church wasn't open for visits unfortunately so i had no chance to take a look inside. Always ask at the marie (chateau) since apparently the church can be visited. Though i'm not sure when..

Ste-Croix-du-mont is build on a layer of fossilsed mussels. Which again are on top of a rock. It tops the whole area. Appartently this part was sea 25 million years ago. And when the sea retreated the mussels stayed behind. Wind and water have made small caves in it where often wine is stored.
If you go to Ste-Croix you can't miss this. Just walk down the small stairway in front of the church and from there you can walk past the mussel bank.
The 2 shells on the picture still look like they have their pearly shine. And i thought them to look like ears. Listening to what went on in the world...

Visiting Ste Croix i did because in cadillac at the tourist information it was said it was definitely worth going to. And since the chateau at Cadillac was closed that one day i was there... At first...
