This is an art deco restaurant with parking meters immediately outside. It is very French and is like going back in time. Was a haunt of Coco Channel. Lovely murels, lighting and glass roof.
Unfortunately both times we hit this restaraunt they were closed for lunch - so we could only manage a coffee - well worth paying a bit over the odds for the ambience. Lunch is served strictly from 12-1 and evening meal from 7.30 onwards - can't wait to have an evening meal to see the full effect of the lighting! Definitely a little gem and well worth stopping for. Prices are Euros 8 for 2 croissants, 1 large coffee with chantilly creme and 1 large black coffee. Lunch and evening meal prices looked reasonable. The Grand Café, a brasserie café on the place d'Allier, is one of the finest of its kind in France - Listed as a Historical Monument, it has conserved its interior decor from 1899 - The Art Deco wood-panelled front, wall-to-wall mirrors whose reflections multiply space to infinity, the old clock and the barometer are all amazingly well preserved
We had the menu: it was a typical standard, French café meal, with a salad, meat (very well), vegetalbvles or fish (also good) all with freshly cooked vegetables and baked potatoes and achoic of desert or cheese. Try the thinly slit ananas or the mouse de cholcolate.
