How to come in and out Clermont Ferrand

by gwened Written Nov 20, 2014

This is the center of my visits to the area as father n law is from nearby, we normally come by car but once we did the train for the experience....

You can come here from Paris on the A10 direction Orléans, past the city hook up with the A71 directioin Vierzon,Montluçon, past it the road becomes the A719 to Clermont-Ferrand. for route planning for additional traffic news

The city has a center that is pedestrian with borne that require an electronic pass so cars are not better be there, this is an area of about 3,5 hectares(about 8,6 acres) at the place de Jaude. However, there are over 3500 parking places in town so no spare anything coming here.
The parkings easily found with a map are
    Les Carmes / Delille, tél. 04 73 91 15 64
    Fontgiève, tél. 04 73 36 82 70
    Poterne/Cathédrale, tél. 04 73 92 60 01
    Blaise-Pascal, tél. 04 73 91 06 06

Of course the beforementioned Jaude is ok, the poterne ,and the Fontgiéve try and taste good ones.

How to come in and out of Le Puy en Vélay

by gwened Written Nov 20, 2014

As I come here by car, the best from Paris is the A6 then A77 direction Nevers/Moulins /Vichy to get on the A719 to Ebreuil and link up with the A75 past Clermont Ferrand, and by Brassac les Mines get on the N102 direction Le Puy en Velay.
you can guide yourself with and traffic news from

You have the street parking regulated by color and a blue disk as normal in France, but easier to use an underground garage such as these
Parc souterrain du Breuil - 476 places, Parc de surface du Breuil - 173 places, Place Michelet - 394 places, Henri Pourrat - 64 places, Place de la Libération - 111 places, Place Carnot - 249 places. There are very easy to find and I love the place Michelet where I have parked. The pdf file map of the parkings you can print is here

The train station is at place Maréchal Leclerc and it is on the line Saint-Georges-d'Aurac à Saint-Étienne-Châteaucreux

You have 10 bus lines, the inner city are
    Line 1 : Brives-Charensac 1/Michelet/Chirel/Malpas
    Line 2 : Brives-Charensac 2/Michelet/Taulhac
    Line 3 : Chadrac/Michelet/Vals-près-Le Puy
    Line 4 : Espaly-Saint-Marcel/Michelet/Mons
    Line 5 : Mondon/Michelet/Saint-Flory
    And the outer lines are
    Line 6 : Blavozy / Michelet
    Line 7 : Coubon / Michelet
    Line 8 : Le Monteil / Fay-la-Triouleyre/Michelet
    Line 9 : Polignac / Michelet
    Line 10 : Saint-Germain-Laprade / Michelet
The network site is call TUDIP and page here

taxi service is here with address and contact, there are in city center too

    Arrive to Clermont Ferrand

by kokoryko Written Nov 25, 2006

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    To get there:
Clermont Ferrand, the capital city of Auvergne has an international airport, and getting there by plane you are in the heart of the area.

But it is good to have a car to go around and there are possibilities at the airport or in town; I am not sure it is easy to find cars to rent in high summer season, so, be prepared.
Most visitors come by car and there are several motorways going to Auvergne with the beautiful A75 highway running across the Central Massif from North to South, with its breathtaking landscapes and the spectacular Viaduc of Millau crossing the Aveyron valley linking two Causses plateaus.
When you travel by car in Auvergne, specially on small roads, you will have to drive slowly, so calculate your driving time when you go from one city to the other; and you certainly will stop here or there; the roads are narrow, there are plenty of turns, and average velocities of 40-50 km/hour are reasonable if you want to enjoy your trips.

Some planes fly over Auvergne map locating Clermont Ferrand Airports with connection to Clermont Ferrand
