Climbing up to the chapel. 4 more images

by pfsmalo Written Aug 17, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For those on the St James way, no need to go up here especially, because the trail takes you past the chapel anyway. This is really a hard climb, just over 400 metres of difference in altitude in 2km500 on a rocky and muddy surface and takes roughly an hour to get here. Built into the caves under the tiny village of Escluzels, there has been a chapel or priory of some form or other since the 13th c, but then in the 17th it was closed in as you see it now. Supposedly open during the summer months but that no longer seems to be case. You can see the interior through a window on the right hand side. Lovely view of Monistrol and the river far below.
