A La Reine Mathilde: Sweet Delights
This shop is beautiful, and offers treasures-- pastry and candy. It will be hard to pass by this shop without stepping inside to sample its wares!
You will find this shop by looking for its stained glass sign, which deserves a separate picture (see below).
A La Reine Mathilde: Advertising Art
This distinctive sign will lead you to a tearoom that offers fine French pastery.
Queen Mathilde was the wife of William the Conqueror. One legend, which is probably not true, has Mathilde (Matilda) embroidering the Bayeux Tapestry.
Au Comptoir des Saveurs: Good Taste
We spent several hours window shopping on the main street in Bayeux. The French do great window displays; there is always an attention to detail and a unity that is impressive.
This store offers some of life's pleasures-- good food and good drink.
Bayeux is located in the Department called Calvados, which lends its name to a wonderful local beverage. It is a brandy made from apples.
What to buy: At this particular store:
Produits du terroir : pommeau, cidre, calvados, alcools spiritueux, champagne, confiseries, chocolats… Cadeaux paniers garnis.
[Regional products: pommeau (Like Bailey's Irish Cream, but made with apple brandy and cream), cider, calvados, liqueurs, champagne, jam, chocolate, decorated gift baskets]

Fleurs: Window Dressing
Visitors to France will be familiar with the elegant and artistic style of window dressing to be seen not only in large smart cities but often in small towns and villages . The display of flowers and autumn fruits in a main street in old Bayeux caught my eye with its colourful and beautifully arranged wares.
This discount card came in useful in cutting down the cost of going to museums and other attractions around the Normandy area.
It only costs 1 Euro and gives you discounts on at least 26 different sights.

Main shopping street (centre): A pleasant town to do some shopping
Whether it is just for cloths or groceries. Or maybe to get some souvenirs of Normandy. Bayeux is a town that has it's function as regional shopping place. The pleasant shopping streets look warm and inviting and the people do their best to give everything a colourful look by planting flowers and keeping the streets tidy.
Porcelaine De Bayeux: Hand-painted Porcelain
We were told of this shop where the porcelain is hand-painted by a local artist. It is expensive but was a great souvineer to bring home to family memebers.
What to pay: The flower vase I purchased was 62.50 euros. A small jewelry box was 25.60 euros.
