If you spend any time in Normandy, you will eat Livarot cheese. It is wonderful. What fun, then, to visit the factory where it is made. The farmers bring their very fresh milk in early in the morning and the cheese-making process begins then, so be aware if you arrive late in the morning, you won't see much happening. They open at 9:30 AM so try to be there at opening.
There is a small museum and you can tour the facility, possibly view wrapping of the cheeses and then visit the fromagerie where you will be invited to taste the cheeses. You can also buy cheese there so prepare for a picnic later in the day. They supply an audio guide in English, German or Netherlands.
Open all year from Mon.-Fri. and also Saturday morning
Normandy not only means June '44 but is also a synonym for good food and especially cheese.
You can drive through as famous places as Camembert, Livarot or Pont-l'Evêque.
The names of those villages were given to cheeses.
I suggest you to visit the Gaindorge cheese factory located in Livarot.
They produce Livarot and Pont-l'Evêque cheeses.
The visit is intreactive and allows you to understand the evolution of the production from the collection of the milk at 150 local farms to the end product.
Dont mis neither the shop at the end of the visit. The choice among local products is simply huge !
!!! Prefer the visit in the morning as the production is fully operating at this momement of the day.
