Monument to the creator of Camembert cheese

While in the neighborhood, stop in at the original camembert cheese factory. It tastes best fresh and room temperature.

Mt Ormel Monument

Mont Ormel was the scene of a decisive World War two battle. The win by the allies marked the end of the German presence in Normandy. General Rommel was wounded, German tanks were left behind and the allies began their sweep across France. There is a very nice visitors center and monument on the site of the desperate fight by Polish members of the Canadian army. The country is so peaceful now it is hard to imagine the intense and deadly fight that took place over several days in Aug of 1944.
