general transport info in Basse Normandie

In France, I drive and take public transports when needed by work or price comparison. However, for the visitor the public transport is a convenient and cheap way to travel unless coming in a family of four or more. comparisons a must.

The public transport in Basse Normandie is ok.
you have the network of buses Trans'Bus

and included the network of trains TER regional

and for the Manche, for the great MSM you can have it here

    But a pretty town yes.

You have been given good advise in that there is no train station like Honfleur ::)

    To Barnville Carteret from Paris

by cochinjew Written Aug 19, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

thanks for the question which needed a little research..
From CDG, take RER to Gare du Nord and change to RER E to San Lazare. or take Roissy Bus to Opera , 10 min walk to San Lazare.
The train and bus are around 10 euros one way.
From San Lazare, travel to cherbourg by tain goes every hour to one and half hours, takes three hours to get there. the fare is around 44 euros.
or stop at valognes two hours and forty five minutes away from gare san lazare .youmay have to take a taxi from cherbourg or valognes to carteret.. the latter is 30 km.. 50 or 60 euros for taxi. a bus from cherbourg to available no 103 one at
6 pm and the other at 11 30 am it is one and half hour duration

get to gare san lazare and then there are trains to caen every hour about 15 euros
connection from caen station by bys no.103 - below link to the time schedule

Link to the town's site :

whew.. but there is any other way

there is a website called where peopel offer lifts.. and it would just 25 euros from Paris to barneville carteret.
so closer to the date look for a lift and then get in touch with the person..

have you thought of renting a car which would be much cheaper, 50 euros per day..

hope that helps and i have learned a few things..

Like most places around the world, long weekends mean heavy traffic. Traffic congestion around the toll stations was horrendous (up to 1 hour wait around Honfleur). Travel time from Lille to Beny Bocage was 9 hours.

The twice we have entered France via Normandie we have used Bretagne Ferries. Our usual route is Plymouth to Roscoff in Bretagne.

The first time we were on the "Quiberon" (thankfully de-comissioned & sold now & does the Sete, France to Italy route) & the much nicer "Bretagne".

There are a variety of routes, Poole to Cherbourg which is the shortest and Portmouth to Caen, Cherbourg. P & O Ferries also sail to Le Harve.

Web site below had all the booking information you need.
