Assumption Day long weekend traffic

by Eugenetheduck

Like most places around the world, long weekends mean heavy traffic. Traffic congestion around the toll stations was horrendous (up to 1 hour wait around Honfleur). Travel time from Lille to Beny Bocage was 9 hours.

Brittany Ferries

by freya_heaven

The twice we have entered France via Normandie we have used Bretagne Ferries. Our usual route is Plymouth to Roscoff in Bretagne. The first time we were on the "Quiberon" (thankfully de-comissioned & sold now & does the Sete, France to Italy route) & the much nicer "Bretagne". There are a variety of routes, Poole to Cherbourg which is the shortest and Portmouth to Caen, Cherbourg. P & O Ferries also sail to Le Harve.Web site below had all the booking information you need.

Have plenty of € for tolls!

by saabfan

If you're traveling to/from Normandy by car be sure to have plenty of cash for tolls. From Mons, Belgium the tollroads cost us €28 each way.Know what to expect by visitng the autoroutes.fr website.
