Vauville Things to Do

This must be one of the places where the visitor has the most square kilometers. The beach is enormous wide, when we arrive, but ... hours later, when we leave ... okay, who stoole the beach? The tidal differences are enormous here (ten meters and more are no exception). Therefore one actually has to watch at which moment one arrives on the beach, as either the water can be far far away, or the water washes away your towel. Still, the coastline at Vauville is magnificent and from view points up hill, one can see miles away into the distance along the coast.

Of course the number one atraction of Vauville is the tropical garden that has been founded around the old mansion (small castle) in this coastal village. The gardens are devided into several sections among which a complete palm tree forest. Especially in summertime, when many plants blossom in the strangest forms, bright colours and with peculiar smells, the gardens become an enchanting place on the Cotentin peninsula.

Vauville Off The Beaten Path

Vauville is a village that stretches out widely over the hills along the Western coastline of Cotentin. We couldn't find a real centre, but maybe hidden somewhere in the green hills there is a core somewhere. Anyway, Vauville is a very nice place to drive around in, as the streets are often bordered with spectacular (in summer) blossoming Hortensia's. The hills are green and invite to take (long) walks enjoying wide views over the sea and along the coast.

The castle near the tropical / botanical gardens of Vauville stays a mysterious place. It is a privately owned mansion, that even from the gardens, hardly can be seen. Walls screen of the building from view and only sometimes you just can see that it still is a quite remarkable building. So look hard, but don;t invite the landlords privacy, as no doubt hiding his house does have certain reasons (-:
