Bailly lies along the river Yonne. It flows to Auxerre. In early days, the caves of Bailly were a quarry where big stones were hacked out and transported over the river to Auxerre where they made houses and large churches.
So our next stop was indeed nearby Auxerre.

Enormous caves with plenty of parking space for hundreds of cars. Caves de Bailly sells Crémant de Bailly, a methode champenoise. Just as good as champagne but much cheaper.
