Pontailler has a port where you can rent houseboats at company Les Canalous. No boat driver permit is needed for this. There are several choices of where to go from there, so this is a good starting point for your houseboat holidays. A bit upstream the "Canal de la Marne à la Saône" branches of, and downstream near St Jean de Losne there are two more canals that you can take, the "Canal de la Rhône au Rhin" to Besançon and the "Canal de Bourogne" to Dijon. Or you stay on the Saône river, which is a pretty big river that makes it's easy to drive and of course is perfect for beginners.
You can either moor at the port which is in a sheltered position and where you can get electricity and water, or if you prefer an easier place to moor you can take the stepped quay at the right bank downstream from the bridge. And if you need you some food: there's a small supermarket and a bakery not far from the harbour, and there's a bigger ATAC supermarket a bit more than 1 km away.
