La Boucherie: Frech steakhouse at Auray

by gwened Written Nov 2, 2014

This is a chain all over France and recently it open another resto near me in Auray. Of course, the welcome was excellent and the property sparkling clean new.

The nice thing it is around a water park and pool, cinema is Under construction, hotel kyriad next door and another restaurant as well. Also, on the D768 road off the N165 taking you to the beaches of Carnac and Quiberon all is wonderful.

The welcome as said was great all greeted, and the service was fast and friendly; we had two servers ! The food was well made, nice presentation and prices good for a French steakhouse but you need to get used to the sizes. Coming from American, Australian background I know you would find the steak cuts a bit smaller and about the same prices.

Open Sundays to Thursdays from 12h-14h30 and 19h-22h30. Fridays and Saturdays from 12h-14h30, and 19h-23h

Favorite Dish: bavette d'angus origin Scotland, that is tender juicy great, apero was porto red, then a side order of cold cuts and terrine with toasted breads, then came the main meal served with fries, green salads and a green beans paste salad that was delicious, choice of sauces I had the Pepper or poivre. All these accompany by a bottle of Malbec from Cahors region, and a l'instant gourmand which is expresso coffee with bits of pastries such as mousse du chocolat, pancake of coconuts, cream with pears, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Each had different but the tally came to about 34€ per person. There are cheaper menus but we ordered a la carte.

L'Océane cafeteria: cafeteria style in Auray

by gwened Written Nov 2, 2014

This is buffet and cook to order cafeteria that is typical of large hypermarket centers here. The L'Océane is because it is near the beaches of Carnac and Quiberon on the road D768 and the commerce park across is also name porte d'Océane.

Inside you have an entrance for covert and plates, then start your tour around the kitchen counter with entrées, desserts, wines, drinks and the cold then hot meals to come out on the cash register.
You can be seated anywhere in a large dining room.

Nice family place where locals and visitors to the beaches can mingle and decent food but not come here for the French delicacies , this is bare bone food at bare bone prices even cheaper than McDonalds. The difference is you get a more complete meal.

Favorite Dish: dishes change with the meny everyday, but usually you get a drink, even wine, entree ,dessert, main dish of meat/fish, water, coffee for about 10€ per person.

French Galette, Saint Goustan: the new crep in town, French

by gwened Written Aug 9, 2014

this is a new business in the place St Sauveur at Saint Goustan. It is a renovated wooden house from the 14C with lower and upper floor resto. A créperie is the traditional resto Breton.

The place has not even a webpage yet but we were one of the first ones to try it,very traditional black wheat and an old Breton barn corner building giving way to the square or place St Sauveur.

the building way back used to be of monsieur bio andré. We were walking by and notice the new name, so nothing listed yet, and sorry did not get the phone number.

Favorite Dish: galette of course and sweet crêpes with cider, try the menu we did the complete traditional basic ones with brut cider.

La Chaumiére: traditional French with Breton twist

by gwened Written Jan 13, 2013

a nice town restaurant in a crucial traffic circle where I have my bank, groceries, pizza, and doctors all walking distance. The resto is old fashion family laidback and very local, traditional French with a Breton twist and full of fish dishes and seafood ones.

It is a casual ambiance with local folks ,and nearby office workers. It is an institution here very well spoken by the local folks. The fish is presented fresh to you before cooking it!!! perfect service and close attention. You need to reserve for dinners as it is very popular. The price quality ratio is excellent.

highly recommended.Open every day except Tuesdays evenings and wednesdays all day. the menus to choose from go from 15 to 33 Euros. You have an excellent choice for lunch formule du jour at 11.5 euros. You can walk from train station to resto in about 15 minutes too. no webpage

Favorite Dish: We have had the salmon with vinegar of raspberries or the steak filet with a toasted bread of porto wine. In essence I try the menu du jour whatever is the freshest and the fish here is excellent in all types and forms.

McDonalds: hamburgers , fries, and coca cola

by gwened Written Jan 12, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well you think I would skip this one, but no way, this is part of our family's culture. A very needed place for many families and a treat for those fortunate ones too.

I need to be here once a month or so, my boys love it, they are American born. So is the parents as they French Americans. So we take turns into all different cultures if read my profile.

The store here is in the Zone Artisanale de Kerbois, near the expressway N165 ,and the road D765 takes you past the expressway into Carnac, and Quiberon ,two prime beach holiday areas.

The place is big with a big playground, in season is full of tourist, now is quieter almost empty if come after 15H. The food is fast food, the usual big mac fries and coke, place. The ambiance is nice and clean place, fast service by a well train crew.

If you happened to be by and need a quick bite this is it, if coming from the beach this could be a quick stop. There are groceries stores, and other restos and bars around the Kerbois and across park Océane area and more is been build for the making of a huge business center park.
See webpage for the store in Auray, many others of course.

Favorite Dish: maxi menu big mac, fries, and coke (coca cola) then a frosty drink or frappé of strawberries. Its standard for me when here !!=)
