The chateau of Regency style was built around 1723 for a state attourney Marquis Louis-René Caradeuc de la Chalotais. The chateau is inhabited by present owner Marquis de Kernier, who is a direct descendant from the very first Marquis, though this now makes it unvisitable. You can get a good idea by taking the stroll round the grounds. Although it is not that big it is called the "Versailles Breton", pretty wishful thinking!!! The park is open to the public however. A very pleasant walk around the grounds of the chateau, will take you around 1.5/2 hours depending on weather and time spent looking at the numerous statues dotted around the alleys. You'll find statues of Joan of Arc, Pan and Louis XVI amid others less well known, in marble, bronze or even wood.
Entrance fee is 6 euros per adult. The park is only open Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays during May, June and September and evry day during July and August. Can be opened specially for groups of 15 and more by request at the price of 3 euros 50 p.p.

A pleasant couple of hours walk easily takes you around the village. By the side of the church there is a walkway that takes you through to a small garden with a panoramic view north and east to towards St. Malo and the coast. Around the main square are most of the bookshop/cafés with others spread beneath the church and the ruins of the tower. Apperently books breeds cats, so don't be surprised to see lots of the furry felines laying about. I had to include the photo of the sign on the midwife's garage door that says "No parking, exit for strollers". Just opposite and not to be missed is the 16th c. half-timbered house, that apart from the walls around the village is the oldest building now standing in Becherel.
