beaches of men du and ilot

by gwened Updated Jun 6, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

these are far out towards la trinité sur mer, actually in La Trinite sur Mer administratively but have here too as it is in border land and most folks visiting Carnac arrive at main beaches there and stay, but there are beaches all over the coast.

This one is interesting because there is a small island just out from it, and on low tide like today you can walk to the island lol!!

its a bit pebbly but very natural beach, unique and very nice place to see and play.

by gwened Updated Jun 9, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

a pre historic museum showing the way it was in the area and a great information and display section on the megaliths stones showing up all over Brittany and especially Carnac.

It was created at the place where they discovered the archeological collections found around the local megaliths stones. The museum reference stones dating from the Neolithic period (4900 to 2200 BC). See the large alpine jade axes, polished ornaments imported from Spain or Portugal, showing Carnac was the center of great influence in the 5C BC

It has about 4000 objects on showcase for a travel of 450 000 years of human history. From the paleotithique era to the galloRoman; the biggest period represented is that of the megaliths stones in the neolithique era. (5000 to 2200 BC)

For the kids and the stone lover this is a nice museum to visit right on Carnac ville or city of Carnac at center pl de la chapelle.

The hours are april, may, june and september from 10h to 12h30 and 14h to 17h
juiy and august everyday from 10h to 18h continuosly.
october to march open 10h to 12h30 and 14h to 17h

    Church of St Cornély

by gwened Updated Jun 9, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

a nice huge church in the middle of the bourg of Carnac next to tourist office. Its an imposing building as you enter the bourg or old city before hitting the beaches. A nice stop and the plaza has parking and nice shops and restos

    a bit of history
The church is dedicated to St Cornély, protector of the horn animals ;his statue is found on top of the west door trunk. It was built in the 17C and was known as one of the most beautiful building of the renaissance in the Morbihan. The north flank porch is raise on a boulder of granite in the shape of a crown, unique in Brittany.
The interior has an organ from the 18C and the ceilings are in wood decorated on 750 m². See the pulpit, choir en forge steel, and the altar as well as wood work on the laterals.

    The leyend
The leyend is that Saint Cornély was chased by pagan soldiers, two cows that accompany him carrying his luggages, one evening, the was surrounded in a close circle near the ocean, and a battle follows. Leyend continues that he hides behind the ear of a cow and transform his enemies into stones. Maybe that is the origin of the alignment of stones of Carnac! Saint Cornély is the patron saint of animals with horns.

by gwened Written Jun 8, 2013

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

great for yound and old, you have two houses next to each other. One the Le Manége d'Armelle is for kids rides in an old world format like a carrousel.
the Les cascades is for older as they are card games, machines games like a casino.

    27 Avenue Miln, 56340 Carnac

It is a great time to be away from the nearby grande plage or big beach of Carnac. The area around it is full of shops ,restos to really spend the whole day here with the family as we do often.
the manéges d'Armelle has a site related to Luna Park ,see other tip here
