Monique is using the chimes wheel. She pulls the chain to make the wheel turn.
The wheel has a diameter of 2 meters and 12 small bells are fixed on it. When it turns, the bells ring one after the other.
The sound is made to be pleasant to the Virgin Mary and it helps to have one wish granted. The man who financed the wheel prayed Notre-Dame for his son who was mute and Mary answered the prayer.
The wheel is really unique.
I do not know something like that in France but it exists the same wheel but larger (diameter : 8 meters and 350 small bells) in Fulda.
No, it is not a tend.
But a confessionnal of the church Notre-Dame de Confort.
Comfortable, isn't it ?
It is one of the most famous calvary of Britany, with its triangular basis.
It was erected, near the church, during the second part of the 16e century.
It is called the 13 Apostles Calvary, because Juda is replaced by saint Mathias and Saint Paul (who is not an apostle) is also present.
Fondest memory: The statues were destroyted during the French Revolution but they were replaced by new ones in 1870.
They are the master pieces of the church.
Though they are 4 centuries old, the colours have kept their initial brightness.
The church was built between 1528 and 1544. The steeple is more ancient and dates Middle Age.
The boats and fishes sculpted on the tympanum of the main door show it was financed by fishers and shipowners.
