Over the centuries at least 4 other buildings were destroyed in attacks by the Normans, the English, and Spanish and in local conflicts.
In 1944 it was seriously damaged by allied bombardment during the Liberation in 1944.. Restored after the war further improvements were carried out in 1992.
Remarkably many of the ancient treasures of the church were preserved and have been returned to the church.
Outside the Church are two reminders of the horrors of the two World wars of the 20th Century - the 1914 18 War Memorial and a Plaque that honours the memory of many local people who lost their lives in Nazi Concentration Camps.
The Plaque reads
In memory of all those who gave their lives in Nazi Concentration camps that France might live. You, who are passing by- remember them
