Take a map from the Tourist Office, on your right as you disembark, and off you go round the island. Nice, bracing walk with views of the sea all over and pristine white beaches to walk on. A real pleasure. You're never more than 1.75 kms from the centre of town and as there are plenty of cross paths, easy enough to take a short cut back. The three main points of view, the lighthouse, the semaphore or the church are always in view, so no chance of getting lost. Not even any cliffs to fall off !!!!
The ancient ruin of the Ste. Anne chapel on the site of Penn Baz dates from the 11th century. Used for the cult until 1786 it was almost covered in sand and abandoned. After disengaging the sand, restauration work has been undertaken but hasn't got very far.

Getting to the island is not a problem at all. Main port for departures is Roscoff but you can also go from Carantec, Locquirec or 2 /3other places but further away. During the main seaso ferries run every half-hour to and from the island. Rest of the year there is a boat every hour or hour and a half depending upon time and tides. One thing to remember at Roscoff these boats do not leave from the deep sea port of Bloscon but from the leisure port, which means that they leave from a special embarcation pier that is quite long, so give yourself time or if you are physically challenged try to find out the high tide. But remember, if you stay on the island more than 5/6 hours it can be low tide on arrival at Roscoff, so long walk again. The timetables can be found on the site below or at www.iledebatz.com.
Cost is 7.50 euros per adult and 4 euros for child over 4 yo. You can take your own bike across for 7.50 euros.
