This is always a sea faring town from times inmemorials, and today it continues. Here you have the submarine Flore of great service to the French navy, and the submarine base done by the nazis that now houses a wonderful museum.
Here the first French entreprise of the new Land of the Indes were created, and continues until the 1800, passing a great moment in support of the American independance in 1775. The fishing becomes important from 1885,and it was a central point in the WWII era.

The boating is inmense with sailing of the cité de voile and many numerous boats and shipyards all around its harbor. A pleasant walk and boat rides abound around here and its a must when we are in town.
