This is my favorite gallery in Brittany because I love the sea. THere are base in la trinité sur mer but have branches in other towns, and here in Pont Aven it is nice building with friendly service and great choices.
All is gear towards the sea, boats, fisherman's villages, fish/seafood, and landscape of harbors. You ,also, get books, and decorative items . All is done in France, therefore, if a souvenir of real France you are looking for, this is it.
The gallery is closed on Mondays. It open Tuesdays from 10h30 -12h30 and 14h-19h, then Wednesday to Saturdays from 11h-12h30 and 14h-19h, Sundays from 11h00 -12h30 and 15h-18h30
What to buy: paintings of sea scenes love it
What to pay: good prices locally done and better quality value than Paris galleries.

Nice old world shop with friendly service and loaded with goodies of Brittany. One of the highlights of visiting my area is to try these morcels of sublime taste, just keep track of your calories.
The place still has the same layout as when it openned in 1920, even if with new owners since 2008. Come on in folks....

a typical spot on almost every town is the place for the breton biscuits and cakes, gateau breton, and the kouign-amann . Always a good souvenir to eat or take back. Here the biscuiterie de pont aven is a mainstay.
the store is of a good size and plenty of goodies to take, friendly service, and central location. I make a point to try them all ::)
What to buy: breton cakes and biscuits for me
What to pay: a good value and great souvenir

It is true that many of the shops along the quai and around the Place de la Mairie - the main square - are geared to visitors and "milk" the Gauguin connection.
Personally I do not have too much of a problem with that.
Souvenir biscuits, whether Highland Shortbread from Scotland, Yorkshire Cookies or Breton Galettes are usully very nice to eat and make very acceptable presents for people back home - specially the kind neighbour who water the indoor plants and the garden for you and would be embarrassed to receive a more lavish souvenir.
So you will find plenty of specialist biscuit - and chocolate - confectinary here.
The abundant grain that was processed in the 15 mills of Pont Aven gave rise to a particular kind of biscuit/cookie that used locally milled flour and the lovely Breton, salty butter.
In nearby towns - like Quimper - excellent ceramics were produced.
You will find all those things here.
But, just away from the touristic centre of the town, you will find plenty of "ordinary" shopping opportunities - butchers, bakers and grocers and an Ecomarche supermarket.
Lots of clothes shops and a very good, upmarket home wares shop

and if you want to spend real money on local Breton souvenirs a branch of the famous Quimper Henriot ceramics is here in town.
