Quiberon is one of the famous surf spot in britain with the"pointe de la torche". there are 5 beautiful spots and due to there positions very differents, you can quite always fine one where surf, whatever your level.
You can also rent a board and a wetsuit (see the link) for half a day etc..
the director can give you lesson, he's very cool and he's an ex champion.
you can also take lessons of wind surfing and sailing (small and big boats) and rent all the material easily but i don't know the websites.

lots of people come every summer to Quiberon, transforming the town in really living place (a little bit too much for me but...). Lots of youngs people on the beach, concerts or exhibition quite every night,free and organised by the town.
The activity in Quiberon in summer is doing nothing on the beach, end getting out during the night. You can also visit one of the two "conserverie" museums (putting fishes in cans. the ex-industrie of Quiberon) which are interesting to see during the working period. But to my opinion the best thing to do is to rent a bike (2 or 3 hours if biking slowly) or to hike (half a day, you take the train to go back during the summer) on the "cote sauvage" (I put photos of it) or to do a trip all around the peninsula.
for backpackers, try not to sleep on the coast, cops are angry about that so it's expensive.
