    Quimper is noted for its Faience-- a tin glazed pottery that has been crafted in the region for hundreds of years. The pottery is beautiful, and varies in style and quality. My favorite is the style pictured here.

    You can buy lesser-quality items for very little money, and the price goes skyward for the better quality new and antique items. There are many stores in the town that sell faience. It makes a wonderful gift (for yourself or for someone else)… and it will always give you good memories of a beautiful part of France.

    The bowls with handles are great for cereal. Small trays make great gifts and are easily transported.

    Next to nothing for low quality stuff... accelerating rapidly for the work of true artisans or rare antique pieces.

    Almost any shop in Quimper sells Laguiole cutlery. I was fortunate to purchase a set of knives and associated servers.

    The Laguiole knife has been crafted in the heart of France for over 200 years. Monsieur Pierre Dubost, a professional in cutlery founded Dubost Colas Pradel in 1920. They started in a small workshop but rapidly grew under the inspiration of Jean Dubost, the founder’s son. The bumblebee that is found on all the Laguiole knives is one of the emblems of the area, signifying its reliability. The blade, made of high-grade stainless steel, is stamped, then ground and then polished with over 25 different manual production stages.

    It has been so many years but I did purchase at a good price.
