Stone Love
  • Tip Rating:
  • This couple, carved in granite, adorn a house built around 1500. Nobody knows who they were, or why they are there. One can only guess...

See the map at this web site to find this and other attractions in Vannes (this is # 4 on the map)--

  • It is nice to observe a stained glass, especially if you usually don't have the chance to do it. That kind of decoration inside churches is usual in France, Paris has some impressive examples. The Cathedral of the city (15th cen.) is dedicated to Saint Pierre.

    The Remparts and the Gardens
  • Tip Rating:
  • The beauty of Vannes is astonishing; it is a bit like Disneyland, but real. The plantings are breathtaking, the old walls and houses, the wash house by the river... it is simply a stunning place.

    19th Centry Laundromat
  • Tip Rating:
  • The washhouse along the river, built in the early 1800's. Here, the women of Vannes did the laundry.

The Tour de Connétable (tower of the constable), in the eastern wall, was built in the 15th century. Five stories high, it had space for guards and defensive weapons.

    Early Morning Walk
  • Tip Rating:
  • During one of our trips to Bretagne, we took our camper van. It was a Sunday morning & we were woken up early because of dogs barking on our site, so we decided to get up and make the best of the day. We went to Vannes and were there by 8am. We went for a walk all around the gardens outside the old city walls and it was not until we got to the other end we saw as sign saying KEEP OFF THE GARDENS (in french of course).

Not a very exciting story, but it goes with my Photo (~_~)

    Vannes (Pont de St Vincent)
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Baroque gateway of Port de St Vincent is the oldest remaining gate way in the old cirt of Vannes, dated 1747. Go through the gate and it will lead you in to the tourist area with lots of shops and cafes.
