It wasn't easy for me to find a holiday to Corsica , I spent hours days and weeks on the internet until I found a company call 'Corsican Places' who specialise in villa holidays to Corsica.
It takes no longer than 2 hours to get to Calvi and with only one flight a week going to Calvi from Manchester it isn't riddled with Brits' which I must say just added to the appeal of going there.
It certainly wasn't the cheapest week away - but it was one of the most enjoyable.
I did notice quite a number of ferry routes to/from South of France & Italy, even Tunisia - so sea lovers may take this option.

Not far from the tourist office, just off the harbour, this little train will take you on a beautiful scenic ride to all parts of Corsica. It is an experience not to be missed.
The line is about 115 years old and is probably one of the best ways to explore the stunning scenery of Corsica.

Whist in Calvi I'd recommend to hire a car, fortunately our travel agents included this in our deal but there are the usual hire car companies over there.
In a week I only saw 2 taxis and both were en-route, I only saw a few coaches which were for private day trips rather than public transport. There is a train service but I didn't experience it to comment.
Ferries do go to other parts of Corsica, but there didn't seem to be a frequent service. We enquired to go from Calvi to Ajaccio, which is west of the island, but the ferry only goes on a Thursday and unfortunately it was Friday when we enquired.

Calvi - a lovely place to visit

We have been to Calvi 2 years in a row for our main summer holiday and have loved it. It was a wonderful sandy beach stretching for miles, the sea is very shallow and safe for children. The town has...

To approach Calvi from the sea is a brilliant experience. The backdrop of the mountains and the old town guarded by the ancient Citadel make a perfect framework for the pastel-shaded houses and the......
