Located in "Most beautiful village" of Candes-Saint-Martin, is the chapel Saint Martin. The Church is known for the many statues that decorate its facade, and for the stained glass windows tracing the story of the relics of Saint Martin.
The church was built in the 12th century, although much of the decoration was added three centuries later.

Right behind the Chinon Castle, on the hill slope not really frequented by tourists, there is a full size trebuchet - a medieval siege weapon used to hurl stones and other nasty things in the enemy camp.

Chinon is another well preserved medieval town. The town is situated on the Vienne River just before it reaches the Loire River making it important for major trade routes in years gone by.

Chinon is a town with a great deal of history. It's fortress was once owned by Richard the Lionheart and it is where Joan of Arc came to plead with Charles VII for an army. The town has tree lined......
Not a very big town, the 400m long fortress towers above the medieval quater, perched atop a rocky spur. The River Vienne runs below. It's a nice, quiet place and is very laid back.
The city of Chinon sits on the Loire and is an excellent base to stay if you are going to explore the chateau's in that area. The city is easy to navigate on foot and has many excellent restaurants......
