George Sand is the pseudonym of Amandine Aurore Lucile Dupin, later baroness Dudevant, been born to Paris the 1st July 1804 and dead to Nohant June 8 1876, French writer.
She had a life rather unruly: she knows Franz Lizst, Alfred of Musset, Julius Sandeau to which one she has his pseudonym and especially Frédéric Chopin of which she was the mistress. She smoked the pipe and got dressed often in man, practices completely unusual for the era.
A statue in Carrara Marble marble decorates the square carrying his name.

Elle eu une vie assez turbulente: elle connut Franz Lizst, Alfred de Musset, Jules Sandeau auquel elle doit son pseudonyme et surtout Frédéric Chopin dont elle fut la maitresse.Elle fumait la pipe et s'habillait souvent en homme, pratique tout à fait inhabituelle pour l'époque.
Une statue en marbre de Carrare orne le square portant son nom.

La Châtre: Holy Germain church.
The first church dated back to the 11st century. In 1152 a fire destroy the center it of La Châtre and one build a new church of which the nave measured 30 meters long . It will be necessary to await the 14 th century for the construction of the steeple.
In 1895 one rebuilds it thanks to a benefactor, but foundations poorly calculated and in 1896 the building collapses and this is therefore only in 1904 that the structure takes his current form.
The piéta, rule virgin originates of a convent and dates back to the 15 th century.
I a lot liked the heads just placed under the gutters, fruit of the eccentric imagination of the sculptors.
La première église datait du 11ème siècle. En 1152 un incendie détruisit le centre de La Châtre et on construisit une nouvelle église dont la nef mesurait 30 mètres de long. Il faudra attendre le 14 ème siècle pour la construction du clocher.
En 1895 on le reconstruit grâce à un bienfaiteur, mais les fondations sont mal calculée et en 1896 le bâtiment s'écroule et c'est donc seulement en 1904 que l'édifice prend sa forme actuelle.
La piéta, statue de la vierge provient d'un couvent et date du 15 ème siècle.
J'ai beaucoup aimé les têtes placées juste sous les gouttières, fruits de l'imagination fantaisiste des sculpteurs.

We did not take the time that it was necessary to discover the jewels of the city. We had a long step that day towards Neuvy-Saint-Sépulcre. I have recognize that La Châtre deserved more attentions !
Nous n'avons pas pris le temps qu'il fallait pour découvrir les joyaux de la ville. Nous avions une longue étape ce jour là vers Neuvy-Saint-Sépulcre . Je dois reconnaitre que La Châtre méritait plus d'attentions !

Donjon des Chauvigny
At the origin, in 1424, it was the residence of the lords of La Châtre: The Chauvigny. Buildings of the castle, alone exists the massive Keep, with these 20 meters of heights and these walls of 2 m thick.
And well on, as a lot of keeps, it uses prison. Here from 1734 and up to 1937. This is John Despruneaux that buy the keep it same year and in fit a museum mustering objects recalling life and eventful loves of the woman writer Georges Sand.
In 1939, one there adds a collection ornithological municipal. At last, it is rechristened "museum George Sand and black valley". Mister John Despruneaux gives his museum to the city in 1966
A l'origine, en 1424, c'était la résidence des seigneurs de la Châtre: Les Chauvigny.
Des bâtiments du château, seul subsiste le Donjon massif, avec ces 20 mètres de hauteurs et ces murs de 2 m d'épaisseur.
Et bien sur, comme beaucoup de donjon , il servit de prison. Ici à partir de 1734 et jusqu'en 1937.
C'est Jean Despruneaux qui acheta le donjon la même année et en fit un musée rassemblant des objets rappelant la vie et les amours mouvementés de la femme écrivain Georges Sand.
En 1939, on y ajoute une collection ornithologique municipale. Enfin, il est rebaptisé "musée George Sand et de la vallée noire" . Monsieur Jean Despruneaux donne son musée à la ville en 1966

"Belle Germaine"
In order to wait while awaiting the opening of the youth inn, we returned Places Market history to sniff the atmosphere of the provincial city. And well on, that this is finished facing an installed glasses to a terrace.
On the counsels of the waiter we tasted the local speciality: The Belle German one!
It us to even furnishes the recipe (after to have insisted a little) : white martini, juice of orange ones + pulp, ice and tonic.
Afin de patienter en attendant l'ouverture de l'auberge de jeunesse, nous nous sommes rendus Place du Marché histoire de renifler l'atmosphère de la cité provinciale. Et bien sur, cela c'est terminé face à un verre installés à une terrasse.
Sur les conseils du serveur nous avons gouté la spécialité locale: La Belle Germaine !
Il nous à même fournit la recette (après avoir insisté un peu): martini blanc, jus d'oranges + pulpe, glace, et tonic.
