Maison des Sancerre
Wine exposition located in 14th-16th century house with tower.
The city is a cobweb of twisted streets with many buildings surviving from the Middle Ages.
The dry, flinty white Sancerre wine has made this little corner of France famous across the world. The Sauvignon Blanc grape variety is king here, perfect wine with fresh fish, fruits, vegetables and goats’ cheese. (When you see signs saying ‘la friture est arrivee’ make a beeline for the bar or restaurant and try the delicious little fish, with a glass of chilled white wine.) Next to the church in the town, you will find Maison des Sancerre, giving complete information about the wines, the soil and the producers.
Place de L'Ancienne Halle
The 1st covered market was constructed in 1456 by Jean IV, 1st Count of Sancerre of the house of Bueil.
The 2nd covered market, built in 1883, was demolished in 1981 to allow space for the open terrece we see today.
And open market is on Wednesday and Saturday.... ^_^
Vineyard @ Summer time
Well its completely different summer and winter.... I love riding bike among vineyard when summer time, satisfy the eyes and fresh air and also sun shine more longerrrr.... and dont forget the flowers is everywhere, so get ready and enjoy the summer time!
The river Loire of course is a focal point of activity. The golf course at Golf du Sancerrois runs along the banks of the river or you can go fishing, kayaking, walking and cycling. The islands of the Loire, at Ménétréol sous Sancerre are particularly rich in flora and fauna, perfect for the birdwatcher who may be rewarded sighting the black woodpecker and the boreal tit. During the summer the emphasis is on the great outdoors; the Canal Latéral de la Loire comes alive with canal cruisers and pleasure craft, the cafes and restaurants are geared for eating al fresco, and the markets are buzzing.
Esplanade Porte César
From the top of Sancerre, Esplanade Porte César ,the view point where we can see all other city down of the hill... very nice view for the eyes catch especially when summer, the vineyard along the hill.
My 1st experience being here is among the vineyard, so bad that my coming is in autumn till winter, so didnt see the green of the vineyard... but I wanna try to wine from this great vineyard of Sancerre.... ^_^
L'église Notre-Dame de Sancerre
The Church of Notre-Dame de Sancerre is due to the initiative of Father Gourru, priest of Sancerre from 1658 to 1662. It had succeeded the Chapel of Saint Jean (XIII century), was built under Louis XV from 1754 to 1762, enlarged in the nineteenth century and its facade redone between 1865 and 1895. Cavaille-Coll organ was installed in 2001.
Travelling through these picturesque settings, you will discover typical villages and little towns. Nature lovers will be delighted with the wild beauty of the rivers and lakes. It is the perfect place to practice a wide range of outdoor activities.
Portail Roman de l'église Saint Père la None
The village of Sancerre was once full of churches. The most important Romanesque buildings were "the church of Saint Romble" under the patronage of the abbey of Saint-Laurent women of Bourgesn and especially the Holy Father None, depends of St. Benedict on the Loire.
There remains some vestiges of the XII century.
