Favorite thing: Tours is surrounded by Chateaux. Unless you plan on spending lots of time and money there to see them, I suggest little trips. Get as close as you can by train, and then figure it out from there. I rented a bike in Blois (after visiting that Chateau) then biked 40 km (20 miles) to and from Chambord (it was tough, but worth it!). We made it back for a train by the end of the day. Great day trip, fun story to tell, great pictures (not developed yet!)

Favorite thing: If you can only see one chateau, see Chenonceaux for its stunning setting on the river and its colorful history. Also: Blois has history (think Queen Margot); Chambord is imposing; Azay-le-Rideau is charming; Cheverny is a little gem, and still inhabited; Chinon is fortresslike; and Saumur has a lovely little town, is somewhat off the beaten path, but offers a lively sound and light show. Also: Fontevraud is a lovely abbey (but transportation connections were weirdly French when I was there--I seem to remember buses only on certain days of the week at odd hours)...

Favorite thing: tour the inside chambers of le Château de Chambord. The photo here is of the King's bed. Apparently the King and Queen had seperate bedrooms, but ironically enough, they had a secret door connecting the two!

Favorite thing: There are also a lot of bars, where you can drink a beer or (better) a wine of Loire valley!
Many persons everywhere!

Favorite thing: In Tours, there are a lot of shops. You'll find everything you need. And the prices are good (quite cheaper than Milan!).
From La Fayette store to little shops!

Favorite thing: Tours is also a congress city.
In the city center there's the new and modern congress palace named Vinci center.
It's in front of the train station.
Nice architecture!

Favorite thing: visit a fleamarket, if you happen to be there on the right day! Two o'clock in the afternoon was a little late, but we still found some nice things!!!

Favorite thing: St. Martin Basilique - Here was buried St. Martin in 397. The tower behind it is the Charlemagne Tower built on top of his wife tumb (800 AD).
