Chateau de CHENONCEAU
The other name of the place is Chateau des Dames which reflects the rivalry between the wife of Henri II Catherine Medici and his lover Diane de Poitier. After Henri's death Catherine Medici turned out Diane from Chenonceau and later built there a Gallery across Cher river.
This Chateau is the most preserved one and thus sufferers that inavitable evil in the presence of hordes of tourists. The only chateau where I came across a group of compatriots, this means really something!

Visiting le Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley.
People say that the Château de Chambord is one of the 'loveliest Renaissance buildings' in the Loire Valley. It was a retreat for French kings, especially Louis XIV.

We rented bikes in Blois (I don't remember the name of the place but it was on Levee des Tuileries, #44) BUT, my bike's chain was broken and the guy kept telling me it was my fault, so I would not recommend them. I'm not sure if there's another bike rental in Blois-but if you have to go there, check the bike before you leave!!

1hour south of Chinon is the beautiful castle of Rivau. You have to drive there (exit st maure) but it is worth it as the gardens are really beautiful !
I went there with my kids and they loved it, everything is organized for them there !

The Chaumont castle.
Nice castle but you see that the above were better. Still worth the detour.

The impressive spiral staircase of the chateau is a centerpiece in itself. You have to go up there and don't you go looking for an escalator or a lift. Ain't no staircase high enough!
