I gather that Tours is quite proud of its railway station and, given the stylish façade, I could agree with them – though it must be said that the ‘operational’ part covering the platforms owes more to function than to style! Part of the reason for the local pride is that the station was designed by a ‘local boy’, Victor Laloux, who is somewhat better known for being the designer of the Gare (now Musée) d’Orsay in Paris. When about to conclude my visit to Tours, I arrived at the station with some time to spare - and found myself looking at the message in the second photo. Roughly translated, it says that the movement of trains may well be disrupted as a result of strike action. Now that was something I certainly didn’t need at that stage! Fortunately the TGV arrived and returned me to my Paris hotel without any delay. Theme: Train

regular flights from Lyon and London ,and buses airport to train station.Ideal for a quick getway to the Loire. Also Dublin and Marseille. Navette bus leave the airport for the train station every 30 mins, and cost about 5 euros after the arrivals of Ryanair flights. Leave a Comment

If you're coming from Paris like I was, take the SNCF from Gare Austerlitz. It's about 1.5 hours and it's soooooo cheap! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

you are taking the TGV indeed Par-Tours (St-Pierre-des-Corps) just outside city of Tours. You will need to transfer to the regular TER train station in city center Tours? if thats the case ,you wont have time for the connection at 10h40,however, why use trains? you can have a navette bus take you there ,the train station is in central Tours near the Cathedral, and you can take the local train from there to Amboise/Chenonceaux (the castle spells Chenonceau, the town is Chenonceaux) this is the train site for the local portion Tours,Amboise,Chenonceaux http://www.ter-sncf.com/pays_de_la_loire/index.asp and this is the local bus service company for the trip from St Pierre des Corps to the Tours gare/station, you take bus 03 direction Joué Blotterie. http://www.filbleu.fr/ the other alternative is a taxi Taxi Radio on the outside to the station in ST Pierre des Corps. and lastly you have not mentioned where are you coming from but if from Paris, you can go direct to the central gare in Tours, a bit slower trains. Hope it helps Leave a Comment

The best way to get to Tours from Paris is the TGV- it only takes 1 hour. Tours has a great bus system which will take you around the whole city and to some interesting locations outside the city. Tours is also a relatively easy city to walk around. To visit the chateaux, I recommend renting a car. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
