“We feasted on the fat things of the earth, as we made our way to Villandry.”
— from “Antiques Digest” 1911
The Shop at Château de Villandry is on the castle’s grounds, directly behind the wonderful little café (see Villandry Tip “Réstaurant La Doulce Terrasse: A Sweet Restaurant”).
We bought a package of napkins with illustrations of the Love Garden at Château de Villandry.
They are practical reminder of our lovely morning visit to this sweet castle and its outstanding gardens.
What a creative, artistic way to keep the gardens alive for visitors once they returned home. The French have an art for living, as do the Italians and the Spanish.
We used the napkins for a party we gave once we returned. We gave a scrapbook party for friends to see our photos, and mementos, coupled with captions, helping the trip to coma alive for our guests. The pictures, etc. are arranged in a scrapbook.
What to pay: Really, you pay what the asking price is. Because of the VERY poor exchange rate between the euro (strong) and the dollar (weak), you are paying a higher price than if the same item was bought in the USA. Therefore it is wise to buy something in the euro-zone that can not be found in the USA.

For me, Villandry is all about the Chateau. Smaller than Chenonceaux, it still retains that fairy tale air about it. From a distance it looks like something out of Disneyland, but of course this was...
