Stop by the tourist office if you need a map, need hotel reservations or want to visit a champagne house but didn't make advance reservations. The people working there were extremely nice and helpful although they told us to take a bus between St. Remi's and Veuve-Clicquot which couldn't have been more than a 5 minute walk. The tourist office is right next to Notre Dame, if you are coming from the train station, you should see it before you get to the entrance of the cathedral. Leave a Comment

The Gothic Notre-Dame by Luchonda Your first day in Reims should be dedicated to the visit of "musts" such as the four monuments listed as World Heritage by UNESCO : the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Tau Palace, the Saint-Remi Basilica and the Saint-Remi Museum, the latter named after the bishop who baptized Clovis. Later, you will discover the secrets of the making of the king of wines, and get a taste of it, in one of the many Champagne Houses of Reims. Leave a Comment

The ceiling by MEdelmann Look above and you will see a wonderful gothic cheiling. It was great to photograph because the windows lightened it well. I was sitting on the floor when I take this picture. And please feel free to click on the picture if you would like to see the great details of it ... Leave a Comment

The cathedral by MEdelmann My sister (who went also with me) was going on my nerves. She could not understand that someone can take so many pictures of one building. But I like photography and also want to show people from outside architectural details. I guess she wanted also take pictures but she had no camera.... I let talk her and took my pictures .... and today I am happy that I did it ..... What I learned: Make always shure that you have co-drivers with you which share the SAME interests like you! You will have no problems then.... Leave a Comment

The cathedral by MEdelmann The cathedral also haves some beautiful gothic interiors ...... When taking pics and whe you have only one camera (like me), a 200 ASA film is a good choice. You can make good pics outside and also inside, because shutter speed is faster but the quality of pics is good enough to scan. But maybe a digital camera is more practical ... Leave a Comment

The Chagall-window by MEdelmann This is the Chagall window again. I have shown it on a tip before, but this time I photograped it from inside. I don´t think it need many words to describe it ..... Simply click on the picture to see all the amazing details of this great window! Leave a Comment

The altar by MEdelmann This is the altar, also built in gothic style. A few minutes before a sun ray came through the window ..... So I wanted to take a picture of it. But the light was dim and the shutter speed to slow to hold the camera by hand. Luckily I had a tripod with me and I put the camera on it. So I could photograph the altar with a smaller aperture and the picture became sharper .... Leave a Comment

The cathedral again ... by MEdelmann Here are some other great cathedrals: The Cathdrale Notre Dame in Paris, the Stephansdom in Vienna, the cathedrals in Strasbourg, Ulm, Bordeaux, not to forget the Westminster Abbey in London. The list is not complete ....
This is the same photo, but here I photographed a little bit lower, so you can also see the lighters in the fore front of the picture ... Leave a Comment

The cathedral inside by MEdelmann Here you can see another photo of the cathedral. It shows the church hall with a view to the wonderful glass window of Marc Chagall, which is at the end of the church.
Does it needs words to describe the beauty of the church? Gothic architecture is very interesting in my opinion and in Europe there can be found so much examples of this great architectural era ... Leave a Comment
