Favorite thing: Built along the river Loue, Ornans is sometimes called "la petite Venise de Franche-Comte".
This pretty and quiet little town's most famous child is the painter Gustave Courbet (1819-1877) whose paintings (at least a large number of them) were a tribute to his beloved birth-town. His house can be visited and there is even a Gustave Courbet museum inside.
Ornans is a nice base for enthusiasic walkers (some good hikes along the Loue or the Lison, the GR 590 and GR 595, ...), mountain bikers, roc climbers (La Breme, La Barmaud, ...), kayakers and fly fishers- (the Loue beeing very rich in trouts).
The town presents some Xvii th century noble houses, there is a castle too, but not much of it remains : the chapel (around 1300), some ruins and a - very damaged - belvedere.
