En avant pour la guerre

by Klod5

We are at the cemetery of the Père Lachaise, forward for the war, even here where work is already very advanced... Finally, a cemetery, it is full of actuality in March 2003. Who would have believed that the hero's myth war resurgirait 100 years after in a country layman?

Monestiès - Tarn (81) - Midi-Pyrénées - France

by Klod5

by beatle74

The Arc that Napoléon intended as a celebration of his victories was not finished when the Battle of Waterloo brought his downfall. It now stands guard over the remains of an unknown solider from World War I, with the eternal flame burning under it. Radiating out from its honking, jammed centre are major roads in all directions. Every conquest since Napoléon has brought images of the liberators and citizens climbing the Arc. From above it gives a wonderful view through Paris' spectacular centre. There is no other chance to ended up your holiday without seeing Arc de Triomphe...which could have been meaning that you couldn't see Champs Elysees too.....that could be really a lost for you.....Many great shops, especially perfumeries, branded shops, cafes, popular clubs....all in that street!!! And walking around there makes you feel the real PARIS!The circle around the Arch known as Place...

The Perigord (Dordogne)

by Canadienne

The Perigord region (so-called by the French) roughly corresponds to the Dordogne Valley (so-called by the British). . .it was the basis of my 16-day visit in September & October 2002.The region is breathtaking and is somewhat overlooked outside of the country. Peak tourist season is July & August, but the weather holds up for visiting into early October (plus you miss the crowds and benefit from lower prices). Wandering the lanes and squares of little villages; sitting on cafe patios and watching the world; exploring beautiful chateaux, castles and gardens; and, finally, the wine, the bread, the chocolate.

Cows

by dutch_anna

In June 2001, the meadows in the Netherlands were still empty after the destruction of the cattle because of the foot-and-mouth-disease. How I enjoyed the sight of the grazing French cows and sheep.I like cows. And those beige French cows are so beautiful. And curious enough to come nearby when you need them for a picture:)

French Monkees

by morgandk

Those little hats on the mokees, dancing to the accordian music and begging for cheese. Another fond memory is how a sweet appearing little old lady grabbed my elbow at a street corner. I thought she wanted assistance crossing the street, but as I started to help her- she jerked my elbow real hard. I was helping her balance as she publicly urinated.

French Cheese

by morgandk

So much in France is not worth seeing, that it is hard to pick a favorite thing- so I will tell you some general items about the former Vichy Republic of the Third Reich. My fondest memory of France is leaving. It would be a great country if it wasn't for the French people. Alone, and outside of their sovereign borders- they can be very nice. It is as a whole that they take on the rude and belligerent attitude.
