Connelles Things to Do

Hi. If you are staying at the Moulin de Connelles, you will love it. We did the timeshare there and had a great week. You will be in Haute-Normandie (High Normandy) and it's a great base for visiting some gorgeous places. Unfortunately Normandy is the only region of France that does not make wine. They are famous for apples and cider. Try a Calvados tasting while you are there. It is an apple brandy and is amazing. You can, of course, get all the French wines at stores and restaurants, just not visit a vineyard.

First of all you are fortunate to be flying into CDG airport because you can pick up your car there and not have to drive through Paris. CDG is north of the city and so is Connelles. Roads are excellent and well marked so no worries there. will give you directions.

While at Connelles, we visited Giverny (Monet's Gardens, house and the town), the city of Rouen (cathedral, St. Ouen's Abbey, Joan of Arc fame, art and history), Honfleur (artsy harbor town), Bayeux (famous tapestry and the cathedral; great Saturday market) and Mont St. Michel (a long drive but worth it). You could also visit Lyon la Foret, a marvelous little medieval village where they've made several movies. Les Andelys and Chateau Galliard are near Connelles and there are spectacular views over the Seine. Étretat on the coast is a fun resort town with white cliffs and much-photographed rock formations. We loved the Château de Vascoeuil with its chateau, sculpture garden, tea house by a stream . . . charming and fun.

You'll find more information in the Rouen page. You should type Rouen, Giverny, Honfleur, Vascoeuil, Les Andelys, Rouen, Etretat and Lyon la Foret into the VT Search Window above to see what VT members have already written about these places.

On another trip in that area we visited Jumieges Abbey (a spectacular ruin) and St. Wandrille Abbey; both were wonderful.

How long are you staying? We did a week in Connelles and then spent 3 more weeks in different parts of France. If you stay more than 21 days, you can lease a car which is very nice. Let me know if you need leasing information and I'll give you a couple web sites to check for prices.

You will have a great time; it's such a beautiful area and Norman food is comfort food. There is a great patisserie in Connelles; that's where I ate my first Religueux. Try one; you'll love it.

    Have fun.
