Chapet has two places of business-- one is a restaurant/bar/tobacco shop/little general store (Unfortunately, this business has closed. It is for sale, if anyone is interested in running a restaurant/grocery store/bar/tabac in Chapet!). The second is Les Cocagnes, an antique store, just to the left of the restaurant/bar/tobacco shop/little general store.
What to buy: Antiques... that's about it at the moment. Someone please re-open the bar and restaurant!

One of the joys of going to the market is that, after time, the vendors recognize you as a regular. They get to know a bit about you, and learn your tastes. There is always a bit of pleasant social interaction on top of the business transaction.
This young guy has become our vendor of choice at the fruit & vegetable stand. He speaks quite good English, and he tolerates our less than perfect French. He is thoroughly charming.
What to buy: The quality of the produce here is superb-- local products are incredibly fresh.

Cheese, glorious cheese. Each Wednesday and Sunday morning, there is an open air market in Verneuil-sur-Seine. Verneuil is just minutes away from Chapet. A Sunday ritual for us is going to market to buy food for the week.
What to buy: There are so many cheeses to discover! For a cheese lover, living in France is heaven on earth.
What to pay: Not cheap! This stand offers top-quality cheese, butter, yoghurt... I usually manage to spend 25 euros each Sunday, without trying too hard-- but I walk away with a lot of cheese!
