A Painting on Leather 4 more images

All of the Minor Arts are here in abundance:metalwork and arms, ceramics, stained glass, wood carving and furniture, jewelry and goldsmith work. The spacious rooms are ideal for 16C Tapestries. This was their heyday in Brussels and the best ones are in series: The Loves of David and Bathsheba, Diana and others. Since there are so many they outdo the Louvre but you really need guide materials. Paintings are very limited; the few present are usually on the sides of furniture, one exception is a curious series on leather (poorly lit) on the Life of Scipio. Many of the former occupant's rooms are restored as in all chateaux and are interesting.

In the chapel , the retable behind the altar is made of exquisite 16C enamel panels by Leonard Limousin. They and the carved wood altar are replacements for the original sculpture by Jean Goujon.
