arriving by car to the chateau de Fontainebleau

well again I come here often by car, but train is available .
the most use site folks use is with the car ,but I would advice to compare with a paper map of the region
easy from Paris is to take the A6 A or B from the peripherique road at Porte de gentilly ; it then becomes the autoroute de soleil as the A6 get off exit St germain sur école on the D607 straight into Fontainbleau rue de France. You can have free parking by the Parking de la Faisanderie ,open air at Route de l'Ermitage. Or paying at my favorite near castle and open 24:24 7:7 Parking Boufflers at Rue Ferrare

    by train
from Paris Gare de Lyon direction Montargis Sens, go out at Gare de Fontainebleau-Avon. takes about 40 minutes, from 6h19 to 0h49 and back from 5h30 to 00h.
There are buses line AB to take you into citycenter coming out right in front of the train station for 1,70€ carnet of 10 can buy in tourist office. A tip, you can call the train station here direct at +33 (0) 1 64 22 38 57 ,and see the schedules at the ile de France transport site

the site for buses in the city and surrounding areas is at
local lines are Mon to Sat most of them, sometimes fridays on line 3 sundays too
    Line 1 / Avon : les Bouleaux - Gare / Fontainebleau : château - Les Lilas
    Line 2 / Avon : Gare - Gambetta / Fontainebleau : le Bréau - Crevat Jaurès

    Daytrip from Paris

We didn't try this as a daytrip but according to the Chateau's website you can reach Fontainebleau via public transportby taking a train and a bus.

"From the Gare de Lyon (main line), take the train for either Montargis Sens or Montereau, alighting at Fontainebleau-Avon station, then take the ‘Ligne A’ bus destined for Les Lilas, alighting at the ‘Château’ stop."

The train looks to take about 35-40 minutes, according to Frommer's the rail station is 3km from the chateau so you'd probably want to take the bus which leaves at 15 minute intervals Monday-Saturday, every 30 minutes on Sunday.

Paris by Train has very detailed instructions on how to get to Fontainebleau that appear to be a couple of years old so check and make sure the schedules are still valid.

Presumably you've driven to Fontainebleau to see the marvelous chateau, like Versailles the chateau is no longer located in the country but rather smack dab in the middle of a city with no free parking in sight. We did see some "payant" spots near where the tour buses sit and the best we could understand there was a day rate of 5€ but as we weren't quite sure we doubled back and parked in the garage just outside the chateau. Our whole visit was 6€, slightly more than the day rate but with peace of mind that we wouldn't get a ticket for misreading a parking meter sign.

    Fontainebleau by Tour

There are many tours from Paris that take in Fontainebleau. Some by motorcoach, others such as the one I took, by minivan. It is easy and convenient. Check the schedules and prices. Alternately, you may also go by public transportation. The Rer serves Fountainebleau. Check the map for exact route. The trip takes about 50 minutes.
