Maincy Things to Do

We have written extensively about Vaux but our Tips are under another site, namely Melun close to Maincy and the city from which you would come by cab or bus after your short Paris train ride. Because it is not "under your nose" Vaux is overlooked, while it is more worth visiting than almost all of the Chateaux in the Loire valley. It certainly was created by the best architects and no money was spared. Of course it was Le Notre's prototype for Versailles and its historical significance cannot be overlooked. When we are in the Paris area, we stay all over the Ile de France in small inns and use a rental car which yields enormous rewards. (We almost retired to a Paris suburb but got chicken and chose New orleans as the nearest American substitute and go to Cajun country to hear unintelligible French). So few tourists know enough about France to visit Vaux and few French do either. Our greatest regret is not being able to plan a candle-light visit there (but we did see the Fountains at Versailles and the Music).
