    Planet Pizza: Takeaway pizza

    After our 1st two ideas for dinner didn't pan out, we were headed towards a Domino's Pizza that we saw earlier in the day in Melun when we spotted Planet Pizza so we decided to stop there instead and try a local pizza place. It's take out only, the pizzas come out really quickly, and we just took them back to our hotel to eat.

    Favorite Dish: In the front window was a sign that said "une pizza achetee, une pizza offerte", buy one get one free in English, on senior or mega pizzas. We got two senior pizzas for 12€ which was more than enough for the two of us but it was cheaper than one mega and we got two different kinds of pizza. We got a Samouraï with sauce samouraï, fromage (cheese), chorizo, bacon, oignons (onion), the sauce was supposed to be spicy but it really wasn't. I think the 2nd pizza was the san pietro with tomate, fromage (cheese), jambon (ham), chorizo, champignons (mushrooms), merguez (sausage). They don't skimp on the toppings and while it was nothing out of the ordinary, it was a good break from eating French food and of course we have to eat pizza at least once when we go on vacation!

    La Creperie: Crepes in Melun

    on our 1st night in Melun we headed back into town from our hotel on the edge of town and found La Creperie on a quiet street in town. There was an outdoor sitting area but it was a little chilly to be outdoors so we ate inside in the small dining room

    Favorite Dish: I had a savory crepe that was made out of buckwheat flour and a dessert crepe, both were OK but nowhere near as good as the ones we had later in Paris.

    Bistrot du Boucher: Meeting Place for Meat

    We parked down by the Seine and walked to the city square seeking a place for Sunday night dinner. The places around the square looked like they were full of inmates from Melun Prison so we took a side street to find the Bistrot du Boucher.
    The first impressions are very important. We were certainly impressed by the red carpet and cafe curtains and white tablecloths. Green and white tiles a la butcher shop at the entry and on the bar. The decor of antique travel goods and travel posters looked good.
    The bistrot offered menus for €19.50; €24; €29 & kids meals €8.
    From the carte ; entree €7; main boeuf plats €14; viandes from €19 to €55 (1 kilogram of steak for 2 person). Desserts €7 Fromage €7.
    The street name "l'Abreuvoir" means "watering place". Sounds good to me! Wines are available by the glass (€3.50 - 6), bottle (€17-30) or pichet.
    There is outdoor dining and wheelchair access.
    I suspect the couple who did most of the waiting on tables were the franchisees ( B du B is a national chain). They were very attentive and most welcoming.

    Favorite Dish: Madam started with Kir Royale (€7). He opted for a very cold beer (good range available €4.50-6.50).
    Grill is big in France & at a place called "the Butchers" my expectations were high this year because I had consumed several steak meals in other places that were very good. B du B did not disappoint with a fine piece of rump-steak (€22) done medium-rare as ordered. Madam opted for Salmon with tagliatelli (€12). Wines by the glass were €5.
    Total bill less than €50. Won't hesitate to try another Bistrot du Boucher when next in France.

    L'Ecureuil: A Place to Eat in Vaux-le-Vicomte

    The name Ecureuil (squirrel) derives from Fouquet's emblematic (icon) animal. There is on the grounds near the entry a fine cafeteria-style cafe. It is excellent for lunch and is also equipped for dinner on the candlelight evenings. The food like everything else is well prepared. It allows one to have an unhurried meal if an all-day at the chateau is planned. (In nice weather there is al fresco dining space).If one is on a commercial tour that includes Fontainbleau, an early lunch should be planned. Immediately adjacent are the stables which beckon with another site to see.

    Favorite Dish: No memory of a single dish
