To a lot of European tourists, this is their heaven...it is very ideal for camping, walking and jugging. It can also be notorious in the night though.
Fondest memory: The night activities... Don't ask me!
This is the centre ville. In summer, it is a wonderful place to be , just like most areas in Paris. There are some beautiful shops and lots of activities here. The popular American Hospital of Paris is located very close to this place.
Fondest memory: The beautiful flowers, especially in summer.
This is perhaps the symbol of Neuilly. It is very conspicous as you approach from port de la Muette. You can observe La Defence at the background of the picture.
Fondest memory: The flowers and the Gardens for relaxation that litters every where in this location. It can be said to be lovers paradise.
To a lot of people, it may be knew to learn that there is a straight line joining the La Defence Arch and that of the Arch de Triumps. This picture was taken, backing the La Defence Arch...you can view the Arc de Triumps in the distance.
Fondest memory: The urban planning here is outstanding!
This picture is the entrance to the general block where I live. Most house in Neuilly are designed same way, and they are very quite and confortable. Most of these houses have private gardens, which, are well maintained.
Fondest memory: The small private Gardens..
As I said earlier, most of the appartments in Neuilly have private Gardens. This is the look of the garden witnin the complex. Its very good relaxation point especially during high temperatures.
Fondest memory: I will definitely miss the beauty of these gardens.
The Parmentier's statue stays in front of the city hall.
Parmentier is the man who introduced the potatoe in France at the end of the 18' century. It was an important issue because the population was too numerous and the climate was becomen too cold. So a huge food shortage was permanent and the potatoe was the solution.
Easy to plant, easy to grow with a good nutritious hability.
Fondest memory: But the population refused to eat the potatoes : the devil's vegetable (because it grows underground) coming from a salvage country (at this time).
Parmentier bought a field in Neuilly in the "Plaine des Sablons" and planted his potatoes.
He had an idea to catch the interest of the French people. During the day, the field was guarded by soldiers as precious things. At night, the soldiers left and the people whose curiosity was stimulated went to steal the potatoes and discovered they were a good food.
Meanwhile, Louis 16e had a potatoe white flower at his royal hat. To everybody telling him what was this flower, he answered : "it is a potatoe flower, the plant which is able to feed My People".
May be, it was the first advertisement using a star.
Built at the same period than Sacre Coeur, with the same white limestone than the famous Basilic, this chuch is a testimony of the richness of the locals.
It is so huge for the small town which existed when it was erected.
Fondest memory: The Church is located avenue Achille Peretti, the Neuilly mayor between 1947 to 1983.
Previously, the avenue was named avenue du Roule in memory of the road which went from Paris, crossed Neuilly and went to the Route de Rouen (current N13). At the extremity of this avenue was the first Pont de Neuilly.
At this time, la Defense was a "cul-de-sac" which ended at the Seine and was called "Demi-Lune" because there was here a half-circular plazza on which the coaches with 8 horses were able to make a U-turn.
A proof Neuilly is a wealthy city : it is the only one which has a monument dedicated to the police which is still in good order.
Imagine the same monument at Aubervilliers !
To say the truth, the monument is for the polimen who were involved in the liberation of Paris during WWII.
Fondest memory: It is also located rue Achille Peretti, in front of the Church.
Favorite thing: One thing that is common in Neuilly is the flowers. This picture shows the round about at the juction of Bois de boulogne. This particular place is green and fresh with flowers all year round.
Favorite thing: Doesn't look too wonderful in winter, but it has its own beauty as well. The garden is mostly desolate during winter , but, I always look forward to the next summer.
Favorite thing: Sometimes, when I get up from bed, I watch the birds lazying on the grass looking for food. Sometimes, I can not help but to take the early morning picture of the peaceful garden.
Favorite thing: I usually come to this garden to watch the Sun set over La Defence, whenever I feel the urge. It is the most spectacular view I enjoy in Neuilly.
