 | Paris General Tips | Tips 1 - 10 of 2363 | | Although I am a late riser at home, when we are on a trip, I always wake up early. In Paris, I wake up even earlier than early. Perhaps the excitement of traveling is the cause or perhaps because in Paris, the period between dawn and 8:00 is the time when the city is at its best and my body clock knows it by instinct. City workers on ladders painting lampposts, police officers setting up barricades for an exhibition, a window cleaner washing the Louvre’s Pyramid, bakers bringing baguettes to the backdoor of closed restaurants, and elderly women walking their dogs along empty streets, those activities are among the daily routine that one does not see at any tourist attraction. Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame can wait, I am in no hurry to leave the neighborhood's morning scenes. Leave a Comment |
Joe Carter - There is the occassional street musician to be found in the Paris Metro. Since many of them are either trying to make extra money or the gig may be their only source of income, I would encourage that you tip them on how well you think they perform. I have always enjoyed and respected most of the street musicians that I have come in contact with. This happens to be the first one that the group of us that were traveling with came across in the Paris Metro. Needless to say, this guy was pretty good at his craft. He, like most of the other street musicians that we came across, was pretty friendly. Leave a Comment |

A suburb located to the southeast of Paris, France, Charenton-le-Pont lies at the junction of the Marne and Seine rivers. It's such a peaceful place where I've spent some time. Charenton is located next to Bois de Vincennes that allows to its inhabitants to enjoy sunny days next to the small lake. There are many joggers and bicycle riders. Leave a Comment |
Along the Quai de Montebello, just opposite Notre Dame, are the Bookseller's Stalls. Here you can find all sorts of things: old prints and engravings, old issues of "Paris Match", maps, books, comic books, and "odds and ends". The stalls themselves are essentially boxes bolted to the stone wall of the quai. For the connaisseur, many collector's gems can be found here. Leave a Comment |
Sometimes compared to a giant wedding cake, this extravagant building was designed by Charles Garnier for Napoleon 3 in 1962. The interior of the Opera is famous for its Grand Staircase made of white Carrara marble and its five-tiered auditorium bedecked in red velvet and gold, with a false ceiling painted by Chagall in 1964. The Chateau de Vincennes was the permanent royal residence until the 17th century, before the court moved to Versailles. The royal chambers and beautiful Gothic chapel are all worth seeing; so is the large, impressive museum in the medieval keep. Beyond the chateau moat lies the Bois de Vincennes - my favourite place to relax. Once a royal hunting ground, it is now a landscaped forest with ornamental lakes and cascades, and a zoo.
At the picture there's my very good friend Didier with a real noble last name, who knows, maybe his ancestors have been living in this Chateau... Leave a Comment |
The place to relax, especially on summer months when the garden looks like a beach. People are everywhere taking their sunbathe.
"Le jardin du Luxembourg Ça fait longtemps que je n'y étais pas venu Il y a des enfants qui courent et des feuilles qui tombent Il y a des étudiants qui rêvent qu'ils ont fini leurs études Et des professeurs qui rêvent qu'ils les commencent Il y a des amoureux qui remontent discrètement Le tapis roux que l'automne a deroulé devant eux Et puis il y a moi, je suis seul, j'ai un peu froid" (Joe Dassin) In english: The garden of Luxembourg It is a long time since I had come there There are children who run and leaves which fall There are students who dream that they finished their studies And professors who dream that they begin them There are lovers who go inconspicuously The red carpet spreaded out by the autumn in front of them And then there is me, I am alone, I am a bit cold Leave a Comment |
Glittering diva - Dalida (Yolanda Gigliotti) - has spent 25 years in the heart of Monmartre (11 bis Rue d'Orchampt ). As a tribute to her talent, Paris offered her a Square Dalida in the very heart of Montmartre. There Dalida stands enthroned in the middle of this place which inspires peace and serenity... It was curious to notice how some people look at passers-by during the day and night here. At night try to avoid this place (only if you are looking for the "strawberry") and sometimes it's better not to understand french :-) But at least Moulin Rouge is a worth seeing place at night so just try to walk fast with a great feeling of self-confident Leave a Comment |
