The Eiffel Tower at night by fishandchips Paris is a nice place to wander about at night with the city having its monuments lit up to the best effect. The saying "all cities look the same at night" is true of paris in the main however there are a few exceptions. An example is the Eiffel Tower that gets lit up every hour after dark for 10 minutes or so and looks great. A very exciting place to be when this happens is the lookout at Troccadero or from a boat on the Seine as I am in the photo in 1999 (220 days before Y2K). Leave a Comment

Where is my beloved? by AndyRG Sacre-Caeur is the symbol of romantic Monmartre, where you can always find your own Ameli! If you... smell out the original one, please let me know, I'm in love with her! This church is the second highest point of Paris, the bell at its tower is one of the heaviest in the world: 18,5 tones! I think that the oval cupola of it looks so nice... Leave a Comment

Sleeping in Louvre ??? by kenyneo Sorry sir , i cant resist butto take a picture of ya ! Well going to Louvre is about enjoying the work of art , but if you dont plan properly ..this will probably happen to you - sleeping inside Louvre or you will leave with the Stendhal syndrome - a term used for confused or rather bewildered tourist because of too much artistic stuff occupying their brain . So do like keny does and you will leave Louvre with a smile on your face ! So plan what you wanna see before hand , the museum has a very informative website, you can hunt down the paintings you wanna see , even if you are not overstuffed with paintings and sculpture , you will probably be dragging your feet coz bthis place is so HUGE and dwarf the Uffizi in Florence hands down !!! Me and Youlia - maybe the future students by Lilasel The Sorbonne, seat of the University of Paris until 1969, was established in 1253 by Robert de Sorbon, confessor to Louis 9, for 16 poor scholars to study theology. From these modest origins the college became the centre of scholastic theology. Leave a Comment

by AndyRG This modern arch was built by a Danish architect in 1989 and it is so big that even Notre-Dame can be inside it! La Defense houses an exhibition centre. It is usually a... meeting point for the thousands employees who work at the nearby modern buildings. Leave a Comment

The French love to celebrate important events or circumstances with lights. After all, isn't France the country of Enlightenment? So, they put lights on the Tour Eiffel in 2000 to welcome the year that many considered the beginning of the new millennium (which is actually 2001 because there wasn't any year 0, but only 1 BC and 1 AD). You see also a photo of the basis of the tower with the Pont d'Iéna in the foreground and the Tour Maine-Montparnasse in the background. Leave a Comment

There is a bit of a controversy on how many digits an ATM PIN number should be: four or six. For years the PIN numbers that Paris's ATM's accepted were four digits. However, with the merger of many different banks, you may be required to have a six digit PIN number. For example, Bank of America always required a four digit PIN code. Nowadays the PIN code may be six digits long since B of A's recent merger with Fleet Bank. I am a longtime client of B of A and my four digit PIN code is still acceptable. However, if I was a Fleet client my six digit PIN code is acceptable too. The BNP Paribas ATM's that are affiliated with B of A in Paris usually accept four digits and may be accepting six now. Best thing is to verify with your bank as to the required amount of digits. Leave a Comment

another Parisian gem by morgane1692 Flowers in bloom aren't necessary in order to enjoy the gardens here at Musee Rodin. Inside, of course, you find some wonderful sculptures by the artist and his contemporaries; outside, you may wander the paths and marvel at some truly fab neighborhood architecture! Leave a Comment

Near the Tuileries by CALSF It was our first visit in 1991 and we were walking in the Tuileries Gardens just passing the time and admiring the statuary. We stopped for a rest and noticed a jogger circling us for about ten minutes. Finally he decided to approach us. He wanted to know if we were from the Philippines. Well, one of us was from there. The jogger was amazed for he was wearing a T-shirt saying something about France/Philippines ministries. It turned out that he was the priest, Fr. Philippe Perrouchet, of St. Germain l' Auxerrois across from the gardens. He invited us to attend the evening mass, but unfortunately we were not able to do so. We sent Xmas cards to each other that year and the following, but have lost contact since. Very nice memory indeed. Leave a Comment
