La Bonne Franquette: Even if just for the atmosphere.....

This is a restaurant that you will fall in love with on sight. Situated atop Montmartre it is so pretty on the outside that you ache to get inside and have a proper look. It is rather big with a huge back section where large groups are accommodated. Regular diners sit in the front section and a wandering musician caters to both areas giving it that french atmosphere that you see in old movies. Inside is just as attractive as outside, but the place tends to lose its lustre a little once you get seated.

Favorite Dish: We ordered four different bottles of wine before we finally settled on a suggestion from the waitress, the reason being that everything we asked for was met with "Don't have" from her. What we finally got was mediocre to say the least. The food was fine but not memorable although, my friend tells me his salad was outstanding. (Rocket, pears, walnuts etc.)
    Medium priced.

Auberge de la bonne franquette: "Faire le bien dans la joie"

    The famous

One of the most famous Montmartre historical restaurant. A good way to have on step back in the "années folles". Good food, very nice "atmosphere".
The historical garden was used by Vincent Van Gogh, for his painting "La Guinguette".

Favorite Dish: Traditional French food, excellent. "La bonne franquette" means a user-friendly atmsophere and cooking, when you're enjoyig your life, happy to share a meal (good taste) with friends.

Auberge de la Bonne Franquette: Great food in the heart of Montmartre

Auberge de la Bonne Franquette is located near the Sacre-Coeur Basilica. I've never ordered off the actual menu...we go as a group and have a special menu to order from, but it's very tasty and very French.

The menu's in both French and English.

Since the late 1800s, there have been many famous guests of the restaurant, including Pisarro, Degas, Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, Renoir and Monet. You can see one of Van Gogh's paintings, titled "La Guinguette" on display at the Louvre which was inspired by the garden at Auberge de la Franquette.

There is entertainment provided by two interesting fellows, crooning romantic French songs to dine by. When he found out our group was from Kansas, the singer/guitarist sang "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"...some patrons, kind of drunk, went up to sing with him. It's a great evening of dining, entertainment and flowing delicious wine! Be careful of the accordion player: He fancies himself a Casanova!

Favorite Dish: I always have a difficult time choosing what to order in any French restaurant. Last time, I chose Cuisse de Canard Rôtie à l’Orange Confite (Leg of Duck in Orange Sauce). Not the best choice...it was my first time ordering duck. Hey...you live and learn. I also tried half of an escargot that a friend had ordered. It was chewy...garlicy...not bad, but not something I would order again!

Anyhoo, during previous visits, I have ordered:
    Salade nicoise
    Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée
    Quiche Lorraine, Mesclun à l’Huile d’Olive
Spaghettis à la Napolitaine (Spaghetti with Tomato Sauce)
Bœuf Bourguignon, Carottes au Miel (Beef stew a la Bourguignonne)
(Just not all at the same time!)

This has to be one of those 'touristy' places, there were 2 tour groups (including ours) dinning at the same time. The food was good, the service was superb and the ambience was the best. They had a life band who played very upbeat music, they put everyone to dance. I am sure the wine had something to do with it too! The band had a intersting look...something between the GooGoo Dalls and ACDC.
This is a very good place for large groups.

    This is here - C'es la !

The place is situated in the Marais area, and inside a cloister that also includes the famous Cafe de la Gare. The restaurant looks into apartments where a lot of people learn dancing.... The food is good and not that expensive...

This was one of the first places we (the group I travelled with) ate at this past March. After a day of sightseeing, we broke bread here. There's even live entertainment. It was a wonderful evening.

Favorite Dish: Everything was so wonderful here...out of all the places I've tried french onion soup in Paris, this place had the best.

    And the wine was excellent!

by goingplaces Written Aug 25, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Our tour group had reservations here, at the Bonne Franquette. It was...interesting.
Not only do you get dinner, but you get entertainment too! We were serenaded by an accordion-playing Ozzy Osbourne lookalike and his keyboard-playing, Ron Wood lookalike bandmate. These two guys wore more makeup than I do, and they really should buy stock in their hairspray company. Mr. Accordian was the vocalist, and he does a mean Elvis impression. I would post a picture of them, but they would always make faces at the camera.

Favorite Dish: Yep, we did it. We ate escargots. Not that bad, but a little gritty. Of course, I'm sure the quality is better in some other restaurants, but it wasn't that bad. The dinner menu had a few different options, and mine was Duck L'Orange. I had never had it before, and I really enjoyed it. The duck wasn't too greasy, as I've heard it can be, and the sauce was perfect.
