Did you know that there is a skating rink on Eiffel tower, since 1969!
Skating on the first level of Eiffel tower is free! Euh, once you paid the fees for regular visit. . . .
For fees see the official Eiffel Tower website: http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/pratique/acces/page/tarifs.html?id=2_3 .
I was not there, as I usually avoid crowds, but this Sunday (2008,01,06), walking in the capital city of the world between the Modern Art Museum of Paris and the Trocadero, I unexpectedly stepped across a vintage cars rally and suddenly I thought of a down under VT-friend of mine, looking at some cars, and thought he might be around, as he is a specialist of Antarctica, and he may have taken advantage of the current exhibition at the Eiffel Tower about life in the antipodes: Arctic ( http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/actualites/page/news_list.html?f=1 ) and came from down under with his car and his winter sports equipment! I am sure he would have liked that!
Sorry, no ski or sledge, only skating. . . . but I may try that one night this winter. I think skating on the Eiffel Tower must be an interesting experience.
On the main picture is the 4CV laden with skis, sledges and other stuffs. . . Same car with the Eiffel tower in background on picture2; a few 4CV in front of Trocadero on picture 3, another one in front of Trocadero, on Picture 4, and. . . . the skating rink on the first level of Eiffel Tower on picture 5 (courtesy: http://www.linternaute.com/sortir/noel2005-paris/illuminations-animations/11.shtml ).

Highest rink in the world ?

Last year (2004) the authorities at the Eiffel tower put up a skating rink ! Best of all , once you paid for the normal entry to the tower then the skate hire was free - now that's what I call a bargain.

I rather hopr that this will now become an annual fixture, it sounds a really cool (no pun intended) thing to do.

Winter skating at Hotel de Ville

Every winter (from middle of December to early March) there is a free outdoor ice skating rink constructed at the Hotel de Ville (City Hall) located in the 4th district.

This is such a beautiful setting to have an outdoor ice rink as not only is it closeby to the Seine but also one can skate while observing some beautiful buildings.

In case you are not a skater and just a spectator, well, that is alot of fun too. You can be part of the crowd anyway.

Equipment: Skates are rented for around 5 euro or bring your own!

    Skaters at Montparnasse

You can Ice Skate at Hotel De Ville or just by the Tour Montparnasse between December and the middle of March.

The sight is fantastic! I knew that they had something like this in New York but It was a suprise to see it in Paris as well!

You can hire the skates there, although a lot of people bought their own too...it cost approx 8euro to do it - what an experience!

My husband and I just came back from Paris where we ice skated in front of the Hotel Du Ville. This was a marvelous activity. The last day the sun was shining, the ice was good, the children were at school and the music was good. There isn't anything better than skating in front of the Hotel du Ville in Paris. Skating is free if you bring your own skates.

We tried to skate on the Eiffel Tower but after standing in line in the rain, we were told we could not bring our own ice skates up in the Tower. There is some kind of safety issue with the blades? We did try to appeal to a higher source but was told it was their policy to not let people bring their own skates. We were very disappointed.

We were able to skate at a very nice indoor rink while it was raining. It is called Espace Sports Pavilleron. For more information www.pailleron19.com. The rink is covered with a glass skylight. There is a elivated glassed in snack bar at the end of the rink which is great for viewing. The cost was 6 euros a person

Equipment: Skate rentals are available at all three venues

I think it was plaza de Hotel de Ville, where we could see local people skating on ice. There were no snow, but still they got the ice just middle of the town and it was nice to watch them.

Last time we intend to go to see a football match in Paris. Paris team is called PSG= Paris Saint Germain, but maybe we will go to the game next time when we are in Paris.

Ice Skating up the Eiffel Tower

by ladyolac Written Jan 22, 2007

You can ice skate on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower in winter only on an open air rink. That's a lot of fun and during the winter months, the town hall sets up open air ice skating rinks in different key parts of the city (in front of the main town Hall or at La Villette parc).

In winter, there's an ice rink in the square by the Hotel de Ville - the City Hall -, one of the most beautiful settings in Paris, especially at night when it's lit up.
