Another Paris landmark !
Arc de Triomphe or Triumph Arch...
Commisioned by Napoleon in 1806 & it was not finished until 1836.
The nearest I could be to Arc de Triomphe...
There are four huge relief sculptures at the bases of the four pillars. These commemorate The Triumph of 1810 (Cortot); Resistance , and Peace (both by Etex); and The Departure of the Volunteers, more commonly known by the name La Marseillaise (Rude)...

Arc de Triomphe: Arc de Triomphe
284 steps lead visitors to the top of this grand arch, which provides great views over the city of Paris. Completed in 1836, the Arc de Triomphe commemorates Napoleon's victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. On the east side of the arch, soldiers can be seen departing for battle. The western side reveals the victorious soldiers returning from battle. The spectacular battle is depicted in the frieze on the northern side of the arch.
In the area between the legs of the arch, an eternal flame marks the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, who died during World War I and was entombed on the 11th of November in 1920. Daily at 18:30 the torch is ceremoniously re-ignited.

About 12 streets converge here in one big circle. It looks scary at first, but just take your time, and go from lane to lane. If you miss an exit, just keep circling. Cars in circle have the right of way, ya know.

Actually Arc de Triomphe was one of pleasant surprises. It's very beautiful in the night ( I was on the top of the Arc around 22:00). You must climb to the top at night and see Eiffel Tower, when it glitters. Stairs could be problem...

Again no photo tripods on the top but I used vertical bars (camera between them) and got few good pictures.

Arc de Triomphe: Arch de Triumphe
After the Eiffel Tower this is the next most recognizable spot in Paris. The arch was completed in 1836 and was supposedly commissioned by Napoleon himself in honor of his army. The Arch stands 164 feet high and you can go to the top of the Arch to view Paris. I was completely unaware of this until I began researching for my Paris trip. The Arch sits at the top of the Champs des Elysees and from the arch you can view the 12 boulevards that eminate from her.

I heard stories of people crossing the traffic circle in front of the arch to reach her (not a good idea as you can imagine) the best bet is the underground tunnel which prevents the dangerous traffic in and around the Arch

Arc de Triomphe: The Arc de Triomphe
After the Eiffel tower maybe this is the most recognise site in Paris, the Arch de Triomphe that was built about 200 years ago.
